A Trip Down Memory Lane with Rhino Wireless

Welcome back to my journey into the world of Adobe Illustrator! For this project, I decided to take a trip down memory lane and recreate a logo for a company that was incredibly formative for me: Rhino Wireless.

Some of you might remember them if you’re from the Utah area. For me, Rhino Wireless is where my career in wireless retail began back in 2004. I started out selling Cellular One service from a humble kiosk inside the Walmart in Ephraim, Utah. It was a fascinating and fast-paced start, and it set the stage for everything that came after.

Unfortunately, Rhino Wireless eventually closed its doors. But the story didn’t end there for me. I was working as an administrative assistant for Starbarton in Manti when I got the call to come back to the wireless world. A new company was taking over Rhino Wireless’ old location, and they wanted me to be a part of their team. That’s a story for another blog post, but it all started here.

This logo project was a great exercise in working with different fonts and color schemes. The main logo features a stylized rhino head, which was a fun challenge to recreate. I experimented with several variations to get the right look, including different color combinations and placements.

For the typography, I used two distinct fonts: “Obviously Narrow Super” for the main “Rhino” text and “Obviously Wide” for “Wireless.” I love how the contrast between the condensed and expanded fonts creates a unique and dynamic feel. The color palette is based on a vibrant red, a dark gray, and classic black and white, giving the logo a bold and professional look.

I included some of the color codes I used in the image—Red at RGB 255/0/0, a Standard Gray, White, and Black—to show the foundational elements of the design.

It’s amazing how working on a design project can bring back so many memories. This one wasn’t just about learning new skills; it was about honoring a place that was instrumental in my professional life.

Let me know what you think of the new logo and if any of you remember Rhino Wireless!

Stay tuned for my next post, where I’ll continue to explore more Illustrator projects and share more stories from my past.
